About
Should Saints Push Evolution?
Many Latter-day Saints are unaware that Darwinian evolution is being pushed at our beloved church owned tithing funded Brigham Young University. Afterall, Brigham himself taught against Darwin, and wanted a school where Darwin would be refuted. The saints are familiar with doctrines of the creation very different from evolution theory. They are taught that mankind are the “direct lineal offspring of deity” (1909 First Presidency, “The Origin of Man.”). Certainly, evolution theory, which holds that mankind came into existence from a long line of animals and a common ancestor of living slime, should repulse the saints.
In this presentation, a point-by-point rebuttal is presented to respond to the 2023 “Let’s Talk About Science and Religion” book published by Deseret Book. Sadly, this book, by BYU professors, directly advocates evolution. They say evolution is the fact, and we must shape our religion to fit with it. They insist on injecting evolution into the scriptures. They ignore hundreds of quotes from modern prophets against evolution, and they ignore the scientific issues with evolution theory.
Truly the church has been consistent in rejecting evolution, even from the days of Joseph Smith, who taught that each kind of animal has irrefutable limits that cannot be passed. Joseph also taught of the worldwide flood of Noah. Evolutionists reject the worldwide flood because it proves that the fossils aren’t millions of years old but were made just a few thousand years ago. When we can demonstrate that the Earth need not be so old as they claim, the key to their theory, time, proves to be foolishness. Furthermore, Brigham Young and other prophets taught repeatedly that mankind was born by God naturally. Afterall, we are the same species as God. His “offspring.” The Bible and Book of Mormon testify together that death was brought into the world by the Fall of Adam – a very different picture than evolution’s millions of years of death and evolving. Russel M. Nelson preached that the Earth was a “paradise planet” before the Fall. That doesn’t sound like survival of the fittest! No, God brought different kinds of animals here, and he made humans for this planet too. Being born “of the dust” is a figure of speech for natural birth – we were all born of the dust (see Moses 6:59). When we are acquainted with the glorious revelations about the creation and origin of man, we don’t need to fumble about with the theories of men, which theories were designed to paint a picture of creation which is ‘natural’ and without God. No inspiration can come from such theories.
Furthermore, many scientific findings demonstrate that evolution theory is on its way out. From the law of entropy to the laws of genetic limits, to fraudulent hominid ape-man claims, the 200-year chains of evolution theory are beginning to be exposed for the malicious false theory they are.
Join us in a fun easy-to-read presentation to help you become acquainted with scientific and doctrinal claims of evolutionists in the church and how to respond to these claims. Science and the doctrines related to it are very important aspects of modern culture we should be equipped to have faithful gospel-centered scripture-centered restoration-centered rebuttals to. Indeed, in the restoration we have a much more joyful and coherent explanation for life than evolution theory can offer. Come and see!
Nathan Richardson is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His message is a call to return to teachings of the prophets of the restoration.
